Direct Flash Event & Nightlife Photographer, Brisbane
I am a direct flash photographer in Brisbane, shooting nightlife, parties, launches and festivals with a hard flash pointed straight at the room.
Direct flash is a blunt light, and that is the appeal. It turns the background to black, catches sweat and sequins and glassware, and records a night the way it actually looked at one in the morning rather than the way a brochure would like it to have looked.
It is also quick and unobtrusive, which matters in a crowded room. A pop, a nod, the next frame. People either turn towards it or away. Most turn towards it.
Parties and private events
Birthdays, launches and the kind of party that deserves better than phone photos, shot with a look guests actually want to post.
Club nights and venues
Nightlife coverage for venues and promoters. The Cafe Del Mar series is direct flash, late hours, and a room full of people who came to be seen.
Festivals
Crowd, backstage and the golden hour before the lights come up. See the DNB Festival series.
Questions
What is direct flash photography?
A flash mounted on the camera and fired straight at the subject, no bounce, no softbox. It produces the hard-lit, glossy, late-night look you see in fashion and nightlife photography.
How quickly are event photos delivered?
Event coverage is usually shot digitally so it turns around quickly. You get a delivery date when we book, and a small preview selection first for socials.
Do you cover corporate events?
If the brief suits the style, yes. If you need conventional conference coverage, I am happy to recommend someone better suited.
