Fashion, Editorial & Lookbook Photographer, Brisbane
I am an editorial and lookbook photographer in Brisbane, shooting fashion on 35mm film for labels and publications. Recent work includes Maison Kitsuné and Soul Land.
Most fashion photography in Brisbane is sharp, digital and heavily retouched, and there is nothing wrong with that. It just is not what I do. My lookbooks and editorials are shot on film, with the grain left in and the colour mostly as the stock gave it. The clothes still read clearly. They simply sit inside a photograph rather than on top of one.
Film changes how a shoot runs. There are fewer frames, so each look is considered before the shutter goes. Models are directed without being over-directed. The result tends to feel like a moment somebody was actually in, which is usually what a label is paying for.
Lookbooks on film
Seasonal and capsule lookbooks, planned look by look with the brand so every garment is covered and the set still feels like a single story. Delivered as high-resolution scans suitable for web, wholesale and print.
Editorial stories
Fashion editorials for magazines and independent titles, from concept and location through to the final sequence. The Femme series is a good example: one afternoon, one location, available light.
Campaigns and model portfolios
Campaign imagery for small labels and retailers, and film portfolio work for models who want something that stands apart from a digital book.
Questions
Can you shoot a full lookbook on film?
Yes. We plan the looks in advance, and film is budgeted per look so every garment is covered.
Do you retouch fashion images?
Lightly. Dust, stray threads and the odd distraction come out. Skin and grain stay honest.
Do you work with stylists, hair and makeup?
Yes. I can bring a small team I trust, or work with yours.
